BP-C2
The company’s second product is BP-C2, which is based on BP-Cx-1 combined with molybdenum salts. BP-C2 is in preclinical development as an oral agent for prevention of side effects arising from cancer radiotherapy, nuclear radiation and irradiation at large. In addition, BP-C2 is being developed for biodenfence purposes.
Molybdenum is a known cofactor of a number of detoxifying enzymes of the body and a constituent of traditional vitamin tablets. In addition to the ability of BP-Cx-1 to chelate the molybdenum, BP-Cx-1 also has detoxifying properties such as the ability to neutralize free radicals generated by exposure to radiation.
BP-C2 has been demonstrated in several animal models to reduce both mortality and morbidity mice and rats exposed to both lethal and sub-lethal doses of gamma-irradiation.
It is envisaged that BP-C2 may be developed both as a prophylactic agent to cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy, hospital staff operating equipment emitting radiation, as well as military and power plant personnel being exposed to radiation. In addition, BP-C2 may be used for emergency use in case of nuclear accidents or attacks.
